Hearing Loss - Supplemental Activity 3

Guest Speaker

Invite a person from the farm community who has had a hearing loss due to noise exposure talk to the students. Give the speaker the following instructions:

  • Have the person tell about his/her past and present use of hearing protection.
  • If the person has changed his/her behavior due to the recognition about personal hearing loss, ask the person to relate this information to the students.
Instruct the students to be prepared to answer the following questions after the presentation:
  • How has the loss of hearing affected the individual's life?
  • How has the hearing loss affected the ability to communicate?
  • What hearing protection did this person use throughout their lives?
  • How has the hearing loss affected their farming?
