Hearing Loss - Supplemental Activity 4

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Manufacturers or suppliers will often provide earplugs free if you contact them and explain the reason for your request. Have students practice inserting ("seating") earplugs. Once the plugs are in place, let them talk, listen to music, and monitor different sounds. Emphasize that they will quickly grow accustomed to listening with plugs in place. Use an adjustable sound source (radio, TV, motor) and have students detect changes in noise levels while wearing earplugs.
