Abstract

Increased emphasis on the evaluation of publicly funded programs prompted the authors to explore the contribution an advisory board can make to the success of an agricultural center as an example of agricultural health and safety organizations. The experience of one center is provided to demonstrate the importance of selection, training, regular communication, and involvement to the development of an effective advisory board. Comparison information gathered through an informal telephone survey with five of eight Center Directors is included. A review of the literature supports the development of advisory boards and their key role in promoting the mission of an organization.
