Pure ammonia -- usually called anhydrous ammonia (AA) -- is rich in nitrogen and is used as a fertilizer. AA is stored as a liquid under pressure in tanks and injected directly into the soil. AA is extremely dangerous. The liquid turns into a gas quickly producing subfreezing temperatures. It can also cause very severe burns. It is especially dangerous to the eyes.
