Pre-Operation Maintenance Checks - Coolant

Coolant fluid (water and antifreeze) carries engine heat away from the engine. Air flowing across the radiator then reduces the coolant temperature. A lack of coolant causes overheating of the engine. Water used as a coolant by itself will cause rust in the water pump.

Check coolant levels while the engine is cold to prevent severe scalds.
