Rescues at Sea: A Guide to Helicopter Rescues & Dewatering Pumps

Rescues at Sea: A Guide to Helicopter Rescues & Dewatering Pumps explains and demonstrates the procedures involved when the U.S. Coast Guard responds with a helicopter to a vessel in distress.

The U.S. Coast Guard performs hundreds of helicopter rescue operations every year. The success of each of these lifesaving operations depends not only on the skills of the helicopter crew, but also on the knowledge and skills of those on the vessel seeking assistance. Knowing what to expect and what to do during a helicopter rescue can make the difference in saving your life or your vessel.

This video includes sections on several topics:

  • Preparation and Duties of The Vessel’s Crew
  • Medevac Procedures
  • Rescue Basket Delivery and Retrieval
  • Rescue Strap Use
  • Dewatering Pump Delivery, Assembly, And Use

Each section can be viewed on its own or the video can be watched in its entirety.

This video is of value to all boaters, commercial and non-commercial, and is especially useful to those who operate in waters where help from surface search and rescue vessels is unavailable.
